Shouldn't we do the same in Zimbabwe? Oh wait. They don't have oil.

I have just declared myself king of England.....

Patrick Aherne It’s all fun and games until you have to have tea with Theresa May every week.

“Maduro has destroyed Venezuela. He took the minimum wage from $350 a month to $7 a month. A daily minimum wage does not buy two eggs. Five million people have left the country. Inflation was 1,700,000% in 2018. People are dying from previously eradicated diseases because of lack of vaccines. The murder rate in Caracas compares to that of a war zone. He “won” the election by outlawing opposition parties and by putting the most popular candidates either in jail or in exile. This is not about Trump. This is about human beings aspiring to what all of us take for granted.” Joanna Hausmann.

USA and Europe: Oooh Russia meddling with our democracy
Also USA and Europe: starves countries in crisis with tough sanctions and instigates undemocratic regime change.

What business is it of Europe anyway?

Stop been average, not every is about oil, this chap is dictator and people still suffer there!

BBC you are lagging and falling behind in the actual news, were you sleeping?...he is not Venezuela’s president...it is Guaidó....please repeat after me: the president of Venezuela is Juan Guaidó...

Libya scenario in Venezuela.

America has decided it wants the oil. It has tried a number of other options, bribery, insurgency now it's paying for civil war.

...Turns out Socialism doesn't work any better now than it did 80 years ago.

European Union need to shut up.

Guaido didn’t declare himself as President. By the constitution of Venezuelan, he is the legal President until new government calls for elections.. After Maduro declared President January, 10th for winning ilegal elections, there is an absent of power. Therefore, the Presidency of Venezuela became deserted.

The next 'Syria'... you need another war, don't you?

What right UE has to have such a pressure on Venizuela?

Mr Guaido didn't declare himself as President, he swore as interim President due to a Constitutional mandate as Maduro's term is over and election was illegal. It's all very clear in the Venezuelan's Constituion. He is only there to call for free and transparent elections in a term of 30 days.

The West's insatiable lust for oil continues.

What ever happened to the principle of sovereignty?

They did that in Libya. Now go and check it out likewise Iraq. Leave them alone.

I thought the USA did not recognise the UN anymore....just saying.

Geez BBC News, do your research. He didn't declare himself. He's acting upon his constitutional duty.

"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."

Here we are again with another doing deals with the CIA for their moment in power. It's all good until the day you choose the interest of your own people over the interest of the USA. Just ask Gaddafi or Saddam how that goes.

Why are we getting involved in this?

Why not mind our own business and get our own country in order.

Left or right.
Having oil or not.
Dictatorship is wrong.

The one who sees this question only by oil thing are very unsentimental about what Venezuelan citizens are facing everyday.

Why can't they do this with Zimbabwe as well? Is it oil related? I am beginning to wonder.
