The country where Facebook posts whipped up hate

Interesting that people in a country with an average weekly income of around $20 a week, who can't afford to feed their families can afford smart phones and data to use the internet.

It's not Facebook that's failed, it's bad people using it for evil. It would be like blaming Henry Ford every time a car runs someone over.

Is there anywhere where Facebook doesn't whip up hate?

In my country phones start at 12$ and you can have Facebook ,with some of them ,you can view with no Pictures.

Look at their faces. I want to hug them all and make it all okay.

“Let’s give every human in the world an unfiltered mic that reaches the ears of the world.”

And now we know what happens: a massive social experiment that has done more bad than good.

Really? You’re calling on the experience of one country? Look in the mirror BBC...and the rest of the world while you’re at it.

I missed the part in the article covering Facebook using the money they earned from ads after they were warned about what was going on to benefit the refugees. Or are they planning to keep the blood money for themselves?

Don't let this be another Rwanda.

Facebook no longer connects people but do weaponise them against each other....

Let’s all stop using Facebook. Ready, delete on the count of 3... 3, 2, 1. Oh.

People were not ready for a sudden explosion of access to information, and certain parties who understood the concepts of “Big Lie” and “Masses” took advantage.

A very powerful picture of despair! Let's try to learn from it, yes?

"Facebook's dream of a more connected world"? Looks like your editor fell for the marketing hype. How about "Facebook's dream of monetizing social media"?

Shut up BBC you guys are ignorant and hypocrites.

Facebook has failed all humanity. You all know most of us only come here for news or for complaining.

...actually, it is humanity that has failed.

Facebook gets way too much credit.

Because they overestimated human nature?

Oh its going wrong all over the place, the US, Hungary, Austria, the Philippines, Turkey, etc. Social media has allowed extremism and propaganda to spread virally in ways books, radio and TV never could.

In India now a days "Whatsapp, Facebook..." are being used to spread hate against other religion, comunity, caste...

BJP is one such political party which is promoting communual hatread and violance in India.

What about Ramu Violent in Bengladesh in 2012? Where a mob of 300 Benngladeshi and Rohingyas attacked Buddhist villages and burned down 24 Buddhist and Hindu temples. Using a fake facebook account to incite the violent. No acknowlegement or apology from Facebook for those who suffered.
